[ARCHIVED] Photographers to Capture Essence of Elgin

The City of Elgin and the Cultural Arts Commission are sponsoring Elgin 1440, which invites photographers to photograph the essence of Elgin Tuesday, May 2, 2006.

“There are 1,440 minutes in a day and Elgin 1440 invites photographers to take photos from midnight to midnight on one particular day to capture Elgin,” said Gil Feliciano, community relations and outreach coordinator. “Photographers may submit photographs of people, places, things or events taking place in Elgin on that day. We want their personal vision of Elgin.”

Photographs may then be submitted to the City no later than 5 p.m., Monday, May 15. The photos should be no smaller than 8 x 10 inches and no larger than 11 x 14 inches and must be matted or mounted on white card stock. Photos should not be substantially manipulated.

Photographers should also attach a label to the back of a photo with a name, address, age and telephone number, along with the location and exact time the photograph was taken. Specific information about the photograph should also be included with a comment as to why they chose this particular photograph to submit.

Photographers should submit no more than five photographs to:

Selected photos will be added to a traveling display expected to be unveiled at a recognition ceremony in June.
