With the heat index expected to be near or above 100 for the next few days, we remind you to stay cool!

Heat can affect anyone; however, it is more likely to affect young children, elderly people, and those with health conditions. If you have elderly or special needs neighbors, please check on them and let Elgin PD know if assistance is required. 847-289-2700 or 911 for an emergency.

Elgin will keep its cooling center open which is located in the lobby area of the police department, 151 Douglas Avenue. Residents needing to cool off are requested to check in with the information desk at the Police Department in order for staff to assist with any additional needs.

Residents planning on being outdoors are encouraged to dress in light colored- clothing and drink plenty of water and other non-alcoholic fluids. Experts also recommend limiting exposure to the sun and spend some time cooling off in air-conditioned places.
