The Center Building was razed in the spring and summer of 1993. It was located on the grounds of the Elgin Mental Health Center at 750 South State Street, which is at the junction of State Routes 20 and 31.
Originally, the site was known as the Northern Illinois Hospital and Asylum for the Insane, established in Elgin in 1869 by an act of the Illinois legislature.
