Petitions for candidacy for the 2019 Elgin municipal election are available in the City Clerk’s Office located in City Hall, Room 202, 150 Dexter Court. The Elgin City Council will have the position of Mayor, four Councilmember seats for a four-year term and one Councilmember seat for a two-year term open in the 2019 election.
Petitions for nomination must be filed with the City Clerk’s Office no sooner than 8:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018, and no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018. The placement of names on the ballot will be in the order of filing. NOTE: The City Clerk’s Office will NOT ACCEPT any petition for filing after 5:00 p.m. on the last day of the filing period. This applies to any individual(s) waiting in line as of the 5:00 p.m. deadline who has not yet filed his/her petition(s).
A Consolidated Primary Election will only be required if more than 16 electors file their candidacy for the four council terms up for election; if more than four electors file their candidacy for mayor; or if more than four electors file their candidacy for the two-year council term up for election. If a Consolidated Primary Election is necessary, it will be held on Feb. 26, 2019. The Consolidated General Election will be held on April 2, 2019.
