The Major Investigations Division is comprised of units tasked with investigating crimes that did not incur a permanent resolution during the course of a patrol officer’s initial response to an incident. While the Patrol Division is responsible for responding to immediate situations, detectives are responsible for responding to incidents when extensive and immediate investigation may be necessary. Detectives are able to provide potential long-term support in order to properly investigate both violent and non-violent crimes. Detectives also conduct follow-up relating to other criminal incidents. The assignment of a case to a detective will depend upon solvability factors which includes (but is not limited to) the availability of additional follow-up information that may help resolve the case.
Detectives receive specialized training in many different areas to ensure investigations are conducted with the highest standards of investigative expertise and integrity. The division encompasses the Adult and Juvenile Investigations units.
