Emergency Management

The mission of the Office of Emergency Management is to facilitate the preparation, safeguarding and protection of citizens and property within the city of Elgin from the consequences of disasters and emergencies. The office is tasked with ensuring that the city in a position to mitigate, prepare for, respond to and recover from natural or man-made disasters, as well as terrorism-related incidents.

In pursuit of this initiative, the city implemented a comprehensive Emergency Operations Plan. This plan outlines how the city will respond during a variety of possible disaster scenarios. Depending upon the nature of the disaster, each city department may undertake very specific roles as outlined in the plan. Also outlined are the various mutual aid agreements the city has with various state and local agencies. Through a collaboration with city departments and local resources, the plan will facilitate the city’s response during an emergency situation, thereby making the Elgin community safer during a time of need.

By working together, we can ensure that the Elgin community has the ability to immediately mobilize and coordinate the operations of available local forces in the midst of an emergency, thereby minimizing the loss of life and property.
