Each year, the City of Elgin Human Relations Commission takes great pride in presenting a weekend of activities celebrating the life of one of our country's greatest civil rights leaders, the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to students who have demonstrated an active interest and meaningful involvement in the areas of human rights, civil rights, social justice and/or world peace.  Scholarships may also be awarded to students whose activities are exemplary and reflect the ideals and life of Dr. King.   In 2021, $1,200 scholarships were awarded to Jonathan Aguinaga (Larkin HS), Gabrielle Stephen (Bartlett HS) and Janalis Harrison (Elgin HS).

Food DriveFor the past 10 years, the Dr. King Food Drive has collected thousands of pounds of food for the less fortunate in our community.  

There will be a food drive on Saturday, October 9th from 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at the Gail Borden Public Library.  If you can't make it, click the button to the left and make a cash donation!
