Fall Leaf Pick-up Program

Overview

The City of Elgin offers a variety of collection programs to help residents manage their leaves during the fall season. City crews collect loose leaves from the street in many older neighborhoods, while the remaining areas are required to bag their leaves for weekly pick-up by Waste Management.

General Guidelines

The following are some general guidelines for Fall Leaf Collection that applies to all residents:

  • Prepaid refuse stickers are not required for yard waste bags placed out for collection October 1st – November 30th.  Bags will be picked up by Waste Management on your regular weekly collection day.
  • Leaves in plastic bags will not be collected.
  • State law prohibits disposing of leaves and other yard waste in landfills. Therefore, these materials cannot be mixed with normal garbage for pick up.
