William Long, born in 1848, served in the Civil War, although he was underage. When he returned to Elgin, he entered into the carpentry and construction trade. In 1889, he became foreman of the Carpentry Department at the Elgin Watch Factory. His house is of the late victorian style, with high pitched roofs and long, narrow windows.
