Welcome to Elgin’s Bicycle Safety Campaign!

Biking around Elgin is healthy and fun, whether you are looking for a way to spend time with your family, run errands or explore your neighborhood.

The Elgin Bicycle Safety Campaign works to inspire more biking in Elgin this summer by educating residents on safe bicycling and creating more opportunities for you to do so. The goal is to increase awareness and safety for bicyclists, motorists and pedestrians on Elgin’s streets and trails.

The Campaign includes:

  • Elgin’s very own team of Bicycling Ambassadors! The Bicycling Ambassadors are a team of two bike safety specialists that provide outreach and education on a variety of bicycle-related topics like fitting a helmet or the best biking routes. Look for them at Elgin’s festivals and events throughout the summer.

  • Elgin By Bike – Elgin By Bike is a program that encourages the residents of Elgin to visit local business through incentives that reward shopping trips made by bike. Participants will also be entered into a raffle to win a brand new bicycle! Contact the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Elgin at 847-488-1456 or visit http://www.downtownelgin.com/ for more information.

  • Safety publications – Pamphlets on everything from sharing the road with bicyclists to proper helmet use are available in both English and Spanish.
