Sunday, June 19

Ride for Ice Cream 10:00 am start. We will meet in Festival Park and ride to Wheaton on the Fox River Trail and Elgin/Wheaton Branch of the Prairie Path for ice cream. In Wheaton, we will enjoy ice cream treats at Kimmer's Ice Cream. It's a 17 mile ride each way.$

Monday, June 20

Elgin Historic District Walk 6:30 pm start. Join local historian Jerry Turnquist on a tour of the Downtown Elgin Commercial District which was recently listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Meet in the public parking lot at the corner of South Grove Avenue and Prairie Street.

Tuesday, June 21

 Movie Night at Grumpy Goat Tavern– 6:30 pm start. Enjoy food and beverages at the Grumpy Goat Tavern while watching Inspired to Ride: An Odyssey Across America. Firty-five cyclists from around the world set out to race across the US on the famed TransAmerica Trail. It is an adventure of epic proportions.  Walk with the Mayor – 6:30 pm start. Join Activate Elgin and Mayor David Kaptain at Shamrock Park for a Walk with the Mayor. Mayor Kaptain says, "Bike.Walk.Move:Elgin. It's good for the mind, body and soul!". Meet in the park at 586 Waterford Road, Elgin.

Wednesday, June 22

Breakfast Ride with a City Council Member (or 2) 7:30 am start. Join BPAC and members of the Elgin City Council on a two-wheeled exploration through some of Elgin’s beautiful neighborhoods. The ride will end with coffee and nosh at The Blue Box Café in downtown Elgin. Meet in front of the Robert Gilliam Municipal Complex, 150 Dexter Ct, Elgin. $

Thursday, June 23

 Smart Cycling Clinic  Noon start - Learn the basic rules of the road, components of a bicycle and all the information you need to ride safely and confidently. Ride your bike to the Downtown Harvest Market, 200 N. Grove Ave.

 Yoga for Cyclists – 6:30 - 7:15 pm. Just like yoga, cycling requires concentration, balance and strength. Join us for a yoga class that will take you through the appropriate postures, warm-up and recovery stretches. Please register at the Rakow Branch Library, 2751 West Bowes Road.

Friday, June 24

 Tai Chi for Adults – 10 - 11 am. Tai Chi strengthens the muscles and internal organs and improves balance, flexibility and coordination. Join Sifu Joe from Budokan Martial Arts in South Elgin for a demonstration class. Outdoors if weather permits. Registration required. Please register at the Rakow Branch Library, 2751 W. Bowes Road.

 Tai Chi for Kids – 11:15 am - Noon. Join Sifu Joe from Budokan Martial Arts in South Elgin for a fun activity to help develop children's concentration and coordination.. Please register at the Rakow Branch Library, 2751 W. Bowes Road.

 Fox Valley Exploration Ride 6:00 pm start. Join BPAC and other cyclists on a ride to Algonquin and back on the beautiful Fox River Trail. Meet in the north parking lot of the Gail Borden Public Library, 270 North Grove Ave.

Saturday, June 25


 Bike Donation Drive 9:00 am to Noon. Donate your old bike to Working Bikes, which gives old bicycles new life by redistribution them as tools of empowerment in local and global communities.Just bring them to the Rakow Branch Library parking lot, 2751 West Bowes Road.

 Swedish Day Ride – Now in its 47th year the Fox Valley Bike & Ski Club's Swedish Days Ride remains one of the premier bike tours in the Chicagoland area. Click here for registration and event information.

Monday, June 20 - Saturday, June 25

Working Bike: Rakow Branch will be hosting the Bike Machine from Working Bikes, Chicago. Working bikes can be used to harness electricity to power water pumps, lights and much more. Stop by to learn about it and power pedal it yourself. Visit stations to learn about bikes, wlaking and healthy eating. Rakow Branch Library, 2751 West Bowes Rd, Elgin.


Come Pedal Power the Machine Bike all week at the Rakow Branch! There will be treats and learning stations throughout the library as well as daily activities.
