Not-for-Profit Grant Program
In the 2012 city budget, the City Council designated $250,000 in the riverboat funds to be used to establish a grant program for Elgin-based social service and not-for-profit agencies.

CDBG and Riverboat Grant Applications

Grant applications are now available for Elgin-based not-for-profit social service agencies to apply for funding through the 2013 City of Elgin Riverboat Grant program and the Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG).

During the 2012 City of Elgin budget process, the Elgin City Council set aside money in the Riverboat Fund to establish a new grant program available to all local social service agencies for operations and programming, through a competitive annual grant process. Modifications to the 2013 program have been made that will address concerns and issues raised by 2012 grant participants. Changes to the 2013 grant application process include:

  • For the convenience of participating agencies, application forms and deadlines for both grant programs will be concurrent.
  • Agencies can submit applications to CDBG for capital projects.
  • Agencies can submit applications to Riverboat Grants for operations and/or programs.
  • No special consideration or preference will be given previous recipients.
  • Applicants will have the opportunity to present their grant proposal in a public forum.

Applications for both grants are due on Friday, December 14, 2012, at 5:00 p.m.
