About Assistant City Manager Valdez
Laura Valdez has worked at the City of Elgin since 2012, and brings four years of previous experience working in education and local government settings. She began as an intern in Elgin’s human resources department and city manager’s office, where she played a lead role in managing the implementation of Elgin’s 311 Contact Center in 2014. Valdez co-developed the City’s dual-language 311 mobile app and continues to work with departments and community agencies in enhancing citizen access to city information and public services. She is a member of the City’s budget team and oversees the Strategic Plan Advisory Commission who helped craft Elgin’s 2018-2022 Strategic Principles and Priorities. Valdez will continue her role as point person for many local agencies and nonprofits to help align resources to achieve collective goals. Valdez obtained a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in English and secondary education.

Valdez will provide guidance over areas that relate to civic engagement, public affairs and organizational development in her role as assistant city manager. She will continue to provide strategic oversight regarding citywide communication and engagement initiatives, as well as lead strategic planning efforts.
