In 2006, the City of Elgin implemented an additional 1% telecommunications tax for a total of 6% telecommunications tax for Elgin residents. This new revenue source will allow the city to make a strong commitment to public safety needs and to diversify its revenue base.

If you live in unincorporated Elgin, but have an Elgin address, you may be charged the additional 6% telecommunications tax incorrectly on your phone bills. In order to get this corrected, you must submit a written complaint to your service provider.

If you disagree with your service provider's response, complete a Form RT-12 to request determination of proper tax jurisdiction by the Illinois Department of Revenue.
