Residential Rehabilitation Grant
Overview
The City of Elgin's Residential Rehabilitation Program provides funds to encourage and assist property owners in maintaining and improving the exterior of their homes and neighborhood.

Criteria
This program is designed for structures and households that meet the following criteria:
  • No more than four dwelling units per structure
  • Owners must be at least 18 years of age
  • Housing income must meet the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) income guidelines (see table below)

Allocating Funds
Depending on household income, you may qualify for up to a maximum of $10,000 or $15,000.
Additional covered repairs:
  • Lead paint hazard reduction
  • Accessibility modifications up to $5,000
  • Emergency repairs up to $3,000 (i.e., water service repairs, water heater replacement, sanitary sewer laterals, electrical systems upgrade, and furnace replacement)

Application
The city receives funds from HUD once a year. Funds are then randomly awarded to qualifying applicants until all funds have been allocated. Applications will be available beginning May 1, 2013 thru May 31, 2013. Please click here for an applicaton.
