Drug and Gang Crimes Units
The Drug and Gang Units often work together, not only to combat the drug trafficking trade, but also to focus on the intervention and prevention of gang activity within Elgin.
The Gang Crimes Unit works to suppress criminal gang activity, investigate gang-related crimes, and gather intelligence on known and suspected gang members. This unit provides the department with experts in intelligence gathering, and members have received training specific to gang-related crimes. Gang officers also provide awareness training to schools, corporations, social service agencies, probation officers and civilian groups.
Resident Officer Program of Elgin
Four officers live and work in designated areas of Elgin in an effort to help the neighborhood residents problem-solve and take ownership of their community. Within this unit, we also have one neighborhood officer who does not live in the neighborhood, but is responsive to a particular area with the same goals as the other four resident officers.
Unit for Special Assignments (USA)
The Unit for Special Assignments provides special enforcement to address departmental and community needs. This can include gang enforcement, traffic enforcement, as well as special details within the community. This includes Violent Offender Verification and career offender review.
