Overview
Due to the tragedy that occurred on September 11, the Department of Homeland Security asked all Americans to volunteer in the service of our country. The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) was developed to offer education and training to citizens wishing to effectively respond to emergencies that occur in the home, schools, place of employment, neighborhood or any disaster within our community.
The Elgin Police Department participates in this program and trains interested citizens in applying basic response and organizational skills learned in our CERT classes. With these skills, in the event of a disastrous event overwhelms or delays Elgin's first responders, CERT members can help sustain lives until additional help arrives.
The Elgin Police Department is now accepting applications from citizens who are interested in registering for CERT classes; the police department does not charge for this class. To view and complete the application, click here.
