Overview Elgin is home to several beautiful parks that feature a variety of amenities including picnic shelters, a zoo, baseball fields, and of course, playground equipment. Whether you enjoy taking nature walks, playing sports, or simply having a picnic, chances are there is a city park located near you to satisfy your needs. Parks Goal Our goal is to ensure that all parks facilities are carefully maintained for the year-round safety and enjoyment of the public. Park Hours City parks are open from sunrise to sunset, with the exception of lighted areas such as tennis courts, golf courses, and baseball fields. The hours will be posted at the individual areas.

Shelter Rentals
The Parks and Recreation Department has several picnic shelters available for rent to Elgin residents. Two shelters are located at Wing Park, and Lords Park and one at Trout Park. You can check shelter availability through our online registration site, but must reserve the shelter in person at The Centre of Elgin.  Please note that if a shelter has been booked for any time in a given day, that shelter is unavailable for reservations. Once you are on the registration site, click on the facilities tab. On the left side of the screen you can filter your search by complex, function, and date range. Elgin residents may reserve a shelter in person, at The Centre of Elgin, any time prior to the reservation date. Non-residents can reserve up to two weeks in advance of the reservation date.

Picnic Equipment Bags
We also have picnic equipment bags available for use in our parks. You can rent the volleyball bag or the picnic bag, which consists of a football, soccer ball, frisbee, softball, bat, and bases. To rent either of these equipment bags, contact Delaney, at 847-531-7008.

Outdoor Pools
Elgin has two outdoor family aquatic centers for your enjoyment. Lords Park Family Aquatic Center is located at 325 Hiawatha Drive, on the east side. Wing Park Family Aquatic Center is located at 1030 Wing Street, on the west side of Elgin. Both are equipped with water slides, lap pool, children's play area, and sand volleyball courts.
