Hawthorne Hill Nature Center welcomes volunteers10 years and up to participate. Volunteers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. ALL volunteers under the age of 18 must have a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian. Please bring a water bottle, wear work boots/tough shoes, long pants, long sleeves, and dress for the weather.

 Basketball Scorekeepers
 The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL 60120
Do you know the rules of the game? Are you an experienced scorekeeper? We need you!
Basketball games will begin on October 11th and continue until December 6th (no game on 11/29). Then start again on January 10th through February 28th. Volunteers are asked to commit to one or two Saturdays during the season. Great for basketball players who want to share their love of the game. Volunteer Orientation is your first step in learning about all of our volunteer opportunities. We truly have something for everyone. All new volunteers must attend orientation, sign a waiver and have a background check.

 Eastside Recreation Center Volunteer Opportunities

High School and College Students it's not too early to sign up to volunteer as a ERC Afterschool or Pre-Learner Teaching Assistant. A great opportunity for students who are thinking about a career in education or recreation. Volunteer positions show future employers and college admission counselors the student's drive and dedication. Such accomplishments demonstrate initiative, personal will and leadership skills. 

Afterschool Teaching Assistant - Assist the staff with activities that promote positive and healthy lifestyles for youth, ages 5 - 12 years old. Activities include sports, arts & crafts, games, homework help, and more.

 Location: Eastside Recreation Center 1080 E. Chicago St
 Dates: August 18 - December 19 Following U-46 Calendar
 Times: Monday - Friday 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

 Hawthorne Hill Nature Center

Visitor Greeter at Hawthorne Hill - Do you enjoy greeting others and sharing information about nature? Do you answer the phone with a smile in your voice? Are you willing to assist with basic office tasks (filing, sorting, organizing)? Commitment: Minimum of a 3 hour shift once a month.

Outdoor Work Days
We are planning several work days in upcoming months. No orientation is needed to participate.
 Saturday December 6 9:00 am - Noon
 Saturday January 24, 2015 9:00 am - Noon
 Saturday February 21 9:00 am - Noon

Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. No job is too big or small - extra hands are needed for everything from clearing and preparing the garden to planting to weeding to shoveling dirt!               

 Group Opportunities for All Ages

Schedule your group to volunteer!
Do you get excited working outdoors, keeping the parks clean, and seeing the community working together?  Are you looking for a one day community project to do as a team building event?  Are you looking to build community through adopting a park in your neighborhood?  Are you a team leader that is able to motivate others and work well without direct supervision?

Possible projects:
  • Fall:  Planting bulbs and Trail Clean-up                           
  • Winter:  Picnic table reconditioning
  • Other miscellaneous projects
