 Hawthorne Hill Nature Center
Natural Areas Volunteer Work Days
We are planning several work days in upcoming months. No orientation is needed to participate.

 Saturday Nov 19 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 Saturday Jan 21 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 Saturday Feb 18 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 Saturday Mar 18 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 Saturday Apr 15 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Is your club, team, group, family or just you looking for a project? Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. No job is too big or small - extra hands are needed for everything from gardening and mulching trails to clearing weeds, brush and invasive trees to make way for native species to grow.

For Natural Areas Work Days no volunteer orientation is needed. New volunteers must complete and sign a waiver form. For more information, or to sign up, contact Maura Neuffer at  or 847-531-7055.

Hawthorne Hill Nature Center welcomes volunteers 10 years and up to participate in outdoor work days. Volunteers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. ALL volunteers under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Please bring a water bottle, wear work boots/tough shoes, long pants, long sleeves, and dress for the weather.

On-going Hawthorne Hill Volunteer Opportunities

Visitor Greeter at Hawthorne Hill
- Do you enjoy greeting others and sharing information about nature? Do you answer the phone with a smile in your voice? Are you willing to assist with basic office tasks (filing, sorting, organizing)? Commitment: Minimum of a 3 hour shift once a month.

Trail Monitors - If you like to stroll through nature, this is the job for you! Trail monitors are needed to walk the nature trails at the Nature Center and report any safety issues, such as overhanging branches or trees blocking trails.
Tot Time Nature Volunteers - We are looking for volunteers to assist with set-up and take down of play equipment, check-in parents and children by swiping membership pass and ensuring waiver forms are signed. Other responsibilities include maintaining a safe play environment during nature exploration and play (parents are present during play time).
Wednesdays from 10:00 - Noon. Bilingual is helpful, but not required.

All new volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation, sign a waiver, and complete a background check.
