ERC Summer Camp Assistants

High School and College Students, it's not too early to sign up to volunteer as a summer camp assistant. It is a great opportunity for students who are thinking about a career in education or recreation. Volunteer positions show future employers and college admission counselors the student's drive and dedication. Such accomplishments demonstrate initiative and leadership skills.

 All new volunteers must:
  • Attend orientation
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Sign a waiver and have a background check
  • Commit to a weekly minimum

 Assist the Eastside Recreation Center staff and team leaders with activities that promote positive and healthy lifestyles for youth. Activities include sports, arts & crafts, games, field trips, swimming and more.

Safety Town Assistant
Assist the Safety Town Camp Staff with the one week program for 4 -6 year old children, that teaches lessons on stranger danger, pedestrian, bicycle, fire and water safety. During this week children learn by role playing, riding tricycles in a replica town and practicing pedestrian safety.

 July 18 - 22 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. The Centre of Elgin

All new volunteers must:

  • Attend orientation
  • Be at least 14 years old
  • Sign a waiver and have a background check
  • Commit for the full week

Attending Volunteer Orientation is your first step in making a difference here in Elgin.  We truly have something for everyone's interests and schedule.  Orientation days and times are ongoing.

Outdoor Work Days
We are planning several work days in upcoming months. No orientation is needed to participate.

 Saturday July 16 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 Saturday Aug 22 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 Saturday Sep 17 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
 Saturday Oct 15 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. No job is too big or small - extra hands are needed for everything from clearing and preparing the garden to planting to weeding to shoveling dirt!  Great opportunity for groups, teams, clubs and individuals.

Hawthorne Hill Nature Center welcomes volunteers 10 years and up to participate in outdoor work days. Volunteers under the age of 13 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. ALL volunteers under the age of 18 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Please bring a water bottle, wear work boots/tough shoes, long pants, long sleeves, and dress for the weather.

Visitor Greeter at Hawthorne Hill
- Do you enjoy greeting others and sharing information about nature? Do you answer the phone with a smile in your voice? Are you willing to assist with basic office tasks (filing, sorting, organizing)? Commitment: Minimum of a 3 hour shift once a month. Read more....
Tot Time Nature Volunteers - We are looking for volunteers to assist with set-up and take down of play equipment, check-in parents and children by swiping membership pass and ensuring waiver forms are signed. Other responsibilities include maintaining a safe play environment during nature exploration and play (parents are present during play time).          
Wednesdays from 10:00 - Noon. Bilingual is helpful, but not required.

All new volunteers must attend a volunteer orientation, sign a waiver, and complete a background check.

Special Events
 IL Brews  IL brews at bowes

Join the fun at Illinois Brews @ Bowes Creek, volunteers will help with set up and clean up, raffles and tastings, while keeping everything organized and running smoothly.

We invite you to be part of this great event for an even greater cause...to support the Elgin Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund. This fund was created to provide financial assistance to children in Elgin whose families cannot afford to register them for recreation programs. Every dollar raised from this event goes directly to the Elgin Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund.

Volunteers must be at least 21 years old and sign a waiver. 

 September 10, 2016 3 - 8 p.m. Bowes Creek Country Club

 Harvest Market

Represent Parks and Recreation at a table to promote nature exploration, volunteer opportunities and programs at the Harvest Market booth. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and sign a waiver.

The market is located across from GBPL at the public parking lot, so dress for the weather and bring some ice water!
