Emergency Management Office - General Information
The City of Elgin Emergency Management concept serves to keep citizens informed and prepared for any emergency, coordinates resources during an emergency, and provides, coordinates, and directs citizens where relief may be sought after an emergency. Their goal is to save lives and protect property by developing programs and emergency operational capabilities in the event of a natural or man-made disaster. Planning for and responding to disasters and emergencies requires many different actions, such as evacuation, shelter set-ups for major disasters, or preparations for certain weather related emergencies. All these activities are coordinated and directed by the Director of Emergency Management. Currently, the Director is the Police Chief. The Director of Emergency Management will try to help prepare you by providing free brochures and information on emergency situations and preparedness for anything from tornadoes to winter storms to chemical spills just by calling or stopping by Elgin Police Station. They can give you information on weather related emergencies, evacuation procedures, shelter living, and property mitigation. Speakers are available for large groups and specific questions may be directed to the Director at 847-289-2700.
