Mexico en el Corazon

The highly successful "Mexico en el Corazon" (Mexico in the Heart) tour returns to Elgin on Sunday, September 1 at the Hemmens Cultural Center. Experience a trip of authentic Mexican Folklore presented through beautiful traditional dances and regional music of Mariachi de Jalisco. The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 1:00 p.m. with the program beginning at 2:00 p.m.


Elgin Fringe Festival

The Elgin Fringe Festival returns for its sixth year featuring magic, dance, comedy, drama, music, and the undefined all in downtown Elgin! The event takes place September 6 to 15, with other pre-event happenings already underway. Tickets and more information are available at You must purchase a 2019 Elgin Fringe Festival button in order to gain access to the festival. Events are free, $5 or $10. Shows with a fee must have a ticket purchased & picked up ahead of time- not at the door.


Elgin Short Film Festival

The 11th annual Elgin Short Film Festival promises to be an entertaining evening of some of the very best in short films by some of the very best up-and-coming filmmakers. The screening of the films submitted for this year's festival will start at 7:00 p.m. and the Red Carpet at 6:15 p.m. Chamber Music on the Fox will also present a special performance -- it's all one ticket! Don't forget, you get to vote for your favorite film at intermission!


Walk with the Mayor

Activate Elgin and the City of Elgin invite residents to walk your neighborhood with Mayor Kaptain as we all work together to make Elgin a healthier community. Mayor Kaptain will be walking the Lords Park neighborhood on Tuesday, September 17 starting at 6:00 p.m. at Lords Park Elementary School, located at 323 Waverly Drive. On Wednesday, September 18 at 6:00 p.m., join Mayor Kaptain for a walk in the South West Area Neighborhood (SWAN), starting at Lowrie Elementary School, located at 264 Oak St.


Illinois Brews at Bowes Creek

Join us at Bowes Creek Country Club for a fun and worthwhile event benefiting the Elgin Recreation Youth Scholarship Fund on Saturday, September 14, from 4-8 p.m. Bowes Creek Country Club will provide a beautiful backdrop for this fun-filled event, which will feature Illinois craft & home brew tasting, snacks, live music and raffles. There are three ticket packages available: VIP Sneak Peek, Ample Ale and Designated Driver.


Nine Wine & Dine

Break out your brightest pink attire and we kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a signature golf outing and cocktail party. Nine, Wine and Dine takes place at Bowes Creek Country Club and Porters Pub on Tuesday, September 24. Check-in is at 2 p.m.; Golf at 3 p.m.; Cocktail Party 6 p.m. This event benefits the Women's Organization for Wellness and the Elgin Youth Scholarship Fund.
